Entry Level: No entry requirements
There are no pre-requisites for this qualification. This is an entry level qualification which allows the participants to experience the industry in a productive and meaningful way.
Course duration:
Pathway 1: 24 Weeks - Taylorweir Facilitated Training - Certificate II in Salon Assistant (inclusive of make-up unit)
Pathway 2: 12 months - Salon Based Traineeship
What does a Certificate II in Salon Assistant do?
A Salon Assistant supports professional hairdressers to maintain and organise work areas and assist with multiple salon services, which may include:
- Greet clients
- Gown clients for services
- Assist client’s requirements e.g. making refreshments and providing magazines etc.
- Refilling retail shelves and creating a retail display
- Maintain clean and tidy work areas
- Answer the phone and make bookings
- Shampoo and massage clients
- Apply treatments and perform scalp and neck massage
- Make-up application (full time students only)
- Basic blow dry
- Basic braiding
- Apply semi-permanent colour
- Remove colour and foils
- Maintaining the professional image of the salon
- Adhering to all elements of Occupational health and safety
Pathway 1: Learn at Taylorweir3 Days a week x 24 weeksCertificate II in Salon Assistant is a college based course. Training is facilitated through a mix of training within Taylorweir's studios and simulated salon settings and with a host salon allocated to the student. Taylorweir tuition includes a mix of practical workshops on mannequins and on clients, with written work and group discussions over a period of 24 weeks. Students will have opportunities to assist apprentices in a simulated salon environment to further enhance their salon workplace experience. Host salons joining this program have been specially selected by Taylorweir. All of our host salons have committed to providing meaningful work experience to the Cert II student and have accepted responsibility in providing on-the-job training. What will the Certificate II in Salon Assistant Student Learn @ Taylorweir?The student Salon Assistant will learn the required skills and knowledge attached to this qualification in a simulated salon environment that is conducive to the success of each student. The curriculum emphasis is on personal development and creating opportunities for a positive employment outcome. The Design and Apply Makeup unit from the Beauty Training Package has been included in this course as an added extra unit. This will provide the Cert II student with extra skills to take with them to a salon. To aid in positive job seeking outcomes,students are mentored in personal grooming, personal presentation and interview strategies. “Work Placement” (Host Salon work experience) is initiated on the eighth week into the program. This experience provides the student with an insight on how a salon operates and offers the student an opportunity to decide which genre of salon is suitable to their personality and career ambitions.
Course Fees quoted are for 22 contact weeks of face to face tuition and workplacement. Course fees are inclusive of learning manuals, mannequins, consumable resources, a Cert II Equipment kit and a Professional Make-Up Kit that is retained by the student on completion of the course. |
Career Pathway:SHB30416 Certificate III in Hairdressing Five Units of Competence completed in this qualification will credit transfer when entering an apprenticeship for SHB30416 Certificate III in Hairdressing. |
Pathway 2: Salon Based TraineeshipSecuring a Traineeship:Trainees must first gain employment with a salon who will then register the Trainee with APPRENTICENTRE. The employer is responsible for training the Trainee in a pre-determined skill set. The Trainee benefits by gaining hands on skills and work experience, Trainees do not attend off the job training. When the employer signs the contract for a Trainee, a Registered Training Provider (Taylorweir) is chosen to monitor the progress of the Trainee and subsequently assume the responsibility for the assessment of the Trainee for this qualification. Six Units of Competence completed in this qualification will credit transfer when entering an apprenticeship for SIH30111 Certificate III in Hairdressing. Course Fees quoted are for 12 months and are inclusive of learning manuals and resources used in assessing. The Student tuition fees are indicative only and are subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment.
